Leave Only Wake
Live Simply – Live Large.
Down at the waterline, magic happens.
There, with the gurgle of a passing hull
the sky, mixed into tumbling sea,
sings a story with no words,
told in the language of bubbles,
ephemeral and aqueous, and
reaching always to the far horizons.
This long but fleeting tale,
written only to fade away,
tells quietly
of those who choose to wander by boat.

“Katie Marie”, the ’67 Pearson Ariel
“Why choose an old boat that is *only* 25’6″ long?”
Oh yeah, I get that question a lot, and it is neither an easy nor short answer. That said, I can highlight a few of the reasons here. There’s a link at the end which will take you to a much fuller, longer missive about my “why”… ๐
Small and Simple
Considered quite “small”, she is large enough for me to stand inside, & can carry stores for 120+ days. Her systems are minimal, simple, and reliable.
Excellent For My Purposes and Preferences
Able to sail in coastal creeks or over abyssal deeps, perfect for all types of exploration over 8/10ths of the world. Easily singlehanded, there is also room for a guest or two on short trips. And a Crewdog, of course!
Her Family Pedigree
Drawn by venerable naval architect Carl Alberg, the Ariel is mid-sized in a family of boats ranging from the Typhoon to the Alberg 35, all known for their excellent and proven sailing and handling characteristics.
What can you expect to find here… ?
Writings, ramblings, and musings including and about the (mis)adventures of rebuilding and/or running around on various species of Olde Boates and other watercraft.
Join in the fun with Barque the Crewdog and his ‘Food Guy’, CapnK.
Leave Only Wake
In a word: Boat Stuff, and More Boat Stuff! This site will be where I collect information about boats, boat projects and plans, post progress photos, that sort of thing.
Digital Lowcountry
This site will primarily be featuring my photograhy.ย Mostly, I shoot “scapes” – waterscapes, skyscapes, seascapes, landscapes. But as always, there wil be some oddities in there… ๐
Seeking Null
This could be considered “The Journal”, mostly a place of writing, and eventually telling the Tale of The Trip. I intend to wander off and find places where signal and noise cancel each other…
